Supermarket Survival Guide (Tips & Picks)!

Fiber One Original bran cereal - "Faux-frying" is one of my favorite cooking tricks, and this cereal is the ESSENTIAL ingredient. You'll also need spices -- like garlic powder -- for seasoning up the cereal crumbs, and fat-free liquid egg substitute (like Egg Beaters Original) to get the crumbs to stick to the food. Click HERE for more on faux-frying and HERE for the full 411 on Fiber One.

HG Secret Find! Vivi's Original Sauce Classic Carnival Mustard - This completely unique stuff is like a hybrid of salsa, relish, and mustard. Words cannot express how much I love this condiment! It's only found at a few select stores, but it's worth ordering online.

Boca Original Vegan Meatless Burgers - These freezer-aisle patties are super-low in fat and calories, and they taste really good! Other acceptable hamburger-style patties include the kinds by Amy's and Morningstar Farms. Just look for those with 90 calories or less.

Light Hamburger Buns - Another burger must-have. Sara Lee Delightful and Nature's Own Double Fiber buns are awesome. If you can't find 80-calorie light options, look for small high-fiber buns, like the kind by Pepperidge Farm. And 100-calorie flat sandwich rolls work too!

Fat-Free or Reduced-Fat Cheese Slices - Kraft and Sargento are my preferred brands. Look for cheddar, Swiss, American... whatever your taste buds desire!

Guilt-Free Condiments - Ketchup (Heinz is the best, hands down!), mustard (from yellow to honey to creamy Dijon!), and fat-free mayo all make at-home fast food a home run. And for unconventional burgers like the Island Insanity, seek out thick teriyaki marinade with around 20 - 25 calories a tablespoon, like the stuff by Lawry's!

Single-Serving Bags of 94% Fat-Free Microwave Popcorn - Not exactly "fast food," but popcorn is an American classic. These bags are perfect for smuggling into movie theaters (just remember to POP them first!), and all the brands make them. Gotta have candy while you view a flick? Lollipops are delicious and easy to pack -- Tootsie Pops rock.
