ASK HUNGRY GIRL

Dear HG,

What's your take on the new flatbread chopped salads from Quizno's? I've
heard conflicting info about them, and the nutritionals are a mystery. Can
you help?

Quizzin' U 'Bout Quizno's

Dear Quizzin'

I actually tried all four of these new salads and didn't immediately fall in
love. I did, however, like the hook Quizno's is using; "A real salad needs a
real fork" (cute!). And they do give you real forks even when you do
takeout (they're not pretty ones, so don't get too excited). But the salads
themselves are nothing to write home about. They're more expensive than
other fast food salads, and I actually don't think they're as good as ones you
find at Burger King, Wendy's or even McDonald's (that McD's Asian salad =
YUM!). The lettuce is fresh, but the chicken isn't that great and in general
these flatbread chopped salads are dull. The worst part is, the company
won't release the nutritional info (I called and emailed several times and was
told it simply wasn't available). I have to say, the flatbread they give you
with these salads tastes AWESOME, but it seems like it's been brushed with
oil and/or butter so I'm sure it's pretty high in calories and fat. The
dressings also appear to be super-fatty and highly caloric. So here's my
advice. In a pinch, you can order one of these salads. But I'd avoid the
dressing at all costs, and go easy on the flatbread. Either skip it altogether
or have one piece (not the four they give you). Also-- I'd stick with the
Roasted Chicken, the Chicken Caesar or the Classic Cobb. The Antipasto
has too many fat-filled meats and cheeses packed in. If you're at Quizno's,
you may just be better off with one of their lighter sandwiches, like the small
Turkey Lite (334 calories), or the small Honey Bourbon Chicken (359
calories). Remember, Quizno's does toast their bread, which makes their
sandwiches super-delicious!

Dear Hungry Girl,

I love Tootsie Pops and I was wondering what you thought about them as a
snack. Are they a bad choice for me?

Let's Talk Tootsie

Dear Let's Talk,

You'll never hear me badmouth a Tootsie Pop... I LOVE them! And while I
know they're not exactly HEALTHY, they last a long time, taste fantastic and
have only 60 calories and no fat (even with that nugget of chewy chocolate in
the middle!). I recently found Tropical Tootsie Pops in bunches at my
local "dollar" store and FLIPPED over them. The pineapple flavor is out of
this world. According to the president of Tootsie, Ellen Gordon, who was nice
enough to personally return a phone call I made to the company, these
tropical flavors are a special limited edition run, so they can disappear at any
time. The good news is, Tootsie is constantly conjuring up new flavors and
Ms. Gordon let me in on a little secret -- that the next taste sensation to be
released will be a CARAMEL Tootsie Pop (wowowowow!). For those of you
that avoid sugar, there are mini sugar free Tootsie Pops that are a bit harder
to find but growing in popularity so they'll likely become more readily
available. BTW, if you like Tootsie stuff as much as I do, you NEED to check
out their awesome online store and all the cute, calorie-free items you can
find there. My favorites are the cuddly candy pillows, adorable t-shirts and
charm bracelets. For more of my retro candy faves click here.
